So while Aaron is off doing his thing in the other room, I'm sneaking on here and writing my own post.
So what's the deal with airline food?
Ok for those who know me, you know that my humor isn't that dry. Or cliche. My name is Ethan, by the way, for those who don't know my nickname from SIT summer. And for those who don't know what SIT summer is, there's something wrong with you and you didn't even know about it. I'm sorry. I'll pray for you when I get the time.
So I've been instructed to get some things out of the way. First off...
So I go to Indiana University and we have a union as most major universities do. And every week they have a movie showing. Sometimes it's movies that haven't come out yet, sometimes it's movies that have been out for years, you get the idea. One week "There Will Be Blood" is playing there. I consider myself somewhat of a movie fan and I'm like "ok, this has been nominated for some stuff, and one of my good friends is at Colombia to be a director and he loves this, so I'll check it out". So me and two buddies go and see this movie and let me tell you I wish I had those 158 minutes back. And yes I did just IMDB that shit. Anyways, so the one good part of that movie is not supposed to be the one good part, but I laughed my ass off. Here's the original scene:
Ok, so it's a little out of context, but you (should) get the idea. If not, here's a synopsis. Basically the guy throwing bowling balls is an independent and extremely wealthy entrepreneur in the late 1800's/early 1900's who is after money and he gets his money through finding oil. He finds a huge amount of it under a small town who is very much against changing their old school (religious) ways. He finally gets fed up with all of them and goes off on their leader, the reverend who is also a 15 year old kid? Don't see this movie. But here's the link I really wanted to show you:
For those who know me you know I'm a music purist and I have been known to be somewhat pretentious. And I'm very humble. Anyways, I'm not one to like covers by any means. I mean I can count them on one hand. Also I can count the number of rappers I enjoy on the same hand. But I found this and fell in love. If you like Aaron's music, you'll like this. Also, editor's note, this is dedicated to Matt Steinberg and Matt Kaplan, two of the coolest kids I know. And you'll notice Aaron is left off here cause he left me off his December Daily Dose stuff. Jerk...not really. I love you too bud. But show me some love.
I'm a graphic design major, so by design the movie "Sin City" is like my bible. So I'm stoked for "The Spirit" despite the terrible reviews. I hope it's not as bad as I expect (I haven't seen it yet). As I sit here and discuss with my good friend Matt Kaplan what made movies like "Sin City" and "300" so enticing, I worry more and more about what is making "The Spirit" look...dull and corporate. What made "Sin City" really cool is that it used actors who aren't mainstream (Samuel Jackson), typecast (Eva Mendes), or sex figures (Scarlett Johansen). The cinematography is incredible in the original and I assume it's the model behind the second one. But just because you have great artistry doesn't mean you have a great movie (see "Memoirs of a Geisha"), which is what I'm afraid is going to happen with "The Spirit". If anyone ends up seeing it, let me know how it turns out.
Hope you all enjoyed this. Aaron just came in and said he wants me to make this a weekly thing. So maybe I'll be back. If not, hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday season and best of luck for a good year next year.
Welcome to Maass Media!
My goal for this blog is to share the music I listen to with as many people as possible.  If this is your first time here, all you need to know is that everyday I post good songs from different genres of music.  There is a list of genres on the left - clicking on a genre will lead you to a list of songs (with links to hear them) that I have posted on my blog.
Any time you see a portion of text in brown that means it's a link.  If you want to leave a comment, click on the comment box at the bottom of the post you want to comment on.  Rock on!
