This month I'm doing something special. My blog can't be successful without you, the reader. This is why I'm making the month of December Dedication December. Every day I make a new post dedicated to one of my friends, and I upload a song that I think/know they would like.
This post is dedicated to my buddy Justin Sylvan. While he may be a SOX fan, and while he may have been a little bitch for drafting Tom Brady in fantasy last year, we manage to get along. He loves Hip-hop, and is the only person I know who's heard of Naledge & Kidz in the Hall, a rap group that gave a 2 hour presentation/concert for my Dad's Hip Hop Class (The Ethics of Rap Rock & Hip Hop PHI 125) Here's Heart of the City by Jay-Z off the album American Gangster.
This bud's for you, broski
Welcome to Maass Media!
My goal for this blog is to share the music I listen to with as many people as possible. If this is your first time here, all you need to know is that everyday I post good songs from different genres of music. There is a list of genres on the left - clicking on a genre will lead you to a list of songs (with links to hear them) that I have posted on my blog.
Any time you see a portion of text in brown that means it's a link. If you want to leave a comment, click on the comment box at the bottom of the post you want to comment on. Rock on!

I got in a pillow fight today. As in a fight with a pillow. The pillow won. My wrist is killing me.
How is that possible? To be honest I have no idea. I grabbed a pillow and now my right wrist hurts.
It's a Double Dose Sunday, so there will be 2 posts today. Here's Gorilla by Lupe Fiasco.
Enjoy!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
I can't wait for dinner tonight; any time my mom makes her special mashed potatoes I salivate like one of Pavlov's dogs. All this talk of turkey has made me sleepy, and I have to be up early tomorrow.
The Brad Mehldau Trio has started to grow on me. When I found out last night that they did an instrumental cover of my favorite Beatles song, Dear Prudence, I knew that I would be posting it the next day.

For some reason, the layout of my last post got messed up, so I had to turn it into 2 separate posts.
TOKE UP TUESDAY simply couldn't happen without our friendly 'Pusherman'. What is a Pusherman, you ask? Curtis Mayfield could tell you. Here's Pusherman off Curtis Mayfield's storied album, Superfly.

HAPPY TOKE UP TUESDAY!
Burn one down, pass it around...
First and foremost, a happy birthday is in order. Let's put our hands together for Charles Theodore Pachelbel, who just turned 318. He was the son of the famed composer Johann Pachelbel, who composed everyone's favorite Baroque piece, Canon in D. Well, maybe it wasn't everyone's favorite...
If you're looking for a jazzier version of Canon in D, then be sure to check out the Jacques Loussier Trio; they made a beautiful cover below.

I heard a great story today. I was talking to one of my friends who just got home today, and apparently one of his fraternity brothers used to be an interim for Barack Obama. One day, our friend gets a little inebriated and decides to drunk dial America's favorite senator. His call went straight to voicemail, so he left Barack a message congratulating him for his recent primary victory in a deciding state. A few minutes later, our friends phone buzzes.
It's Barack Obama.
"Hey Mr. Obama, I just wanted to congratulate you on your recent victory".
"You can call me Barack, (friends name). Thank you for your support and the nice message"
Awesome : )
One of my friends had a bit of a rough week, and is coming home tomorrow from a family funeral. As a tribute, the song Coming Home by Alter Bridge, off their newest album, Blackbird, is todays choice.

Ahh, the wait begins.
Only three more hours until the storm comes out and I can order it online. I don't want to risk it being unavailable or out of stock when I order it, because I'm stuck right now with a phone with no screen, and I don't want to invest 2 years of my life in another crappy phone.
Looks like a lot of coffee for me.
I left a message on the phone of the guy that built a website for my mom. TheMaassMedia may be redone sooner than you'd think. Here's Spiritual Groove by Antoine Dufour, with Tommy Gauthier. I can't wait to get a video of Steinberg doing a cover of this on the guitar. He figured the whole thing out by ear.

While Heroes has been preoccupied with sucking and being a weird show, Hugh Laurie and company have done no such thing with House. I love House, he can be such an ass. It was pretty intense watching House telling Forman that he couldn't run the clinical study. On top of that he only became crueler to Forman as House tried to insure that he wasted his time doing tasks that any of the other members on the team could do. There was little use of Cuddy in this episode, which was strange. I was just getting used to the idea of Cuddy and House and this episode kept her out mostly. Undeniably the best part about House is the Intro, which is an edited version of a great song by the band Maassive Attack (just kidding it's Massive Attack) and the song is called Teardrop.

It's Wednesday.
You all know what that means.
If you don't know, listen to this song.
The song is called Business Time by Flight of the Conchords, off their album The Distant Future. Flight of the Conchords are a comedic New Zealand Duo who are considered to be witty, observant, and heavily inspired by folk. They also had their own TV show titled Flight of the Conchords which debuted on HBO in 2007. If any of you SIT '08 guys are watching, I thought of you guys when I picked this song. It was exactly the song I was looking for.
I also recently uploaded some old videos of my friend Matt Steinberg and I jamming. Here's one of me on the piano and Matt on mic check.
I'll upload more of my old videos soon, and I plan on making better videos soon now that I have another year's practice under my belt.
How 'bout them Cubbies for locking up Dempster? 4 years $52 Mil is a solid deal for both teams. I doubt that Ryan will be able to duplicate his ERA next year, but he still looks to be a solid option as a 2nd or 3rd starter.
Enjoy!

Rock Bottom
I hit rock bottom today : (
It all started when I went to The Outback with my dad tonight. Everything was going great until the check came. As my father wrote out the tip, he commented "This is a really nice pen Aaron". Hmmm. He was right, it was a nice pen. Didn't smear, very comfortable to hold and write with. "I could use a good pen" I thought to myself, all while contemplating the ramifications of my next move. I could leave the pen and miss the chance to have a nice writing utensil, or I could take the pen and sacrifice my dignity.
I stepped into my house one pen richer, and proceeded to check out how TheMaassMedia was doing. All things considered, I had a good day in terms of hits. I beat my previous record for a day by 40. But I wanted more. I logged into facebook and started to spread the word about my blog in some of those massive groups. I was on a roll until...
I hit it. Rock Bottom. Also a great song by UFO, performed live below.

HAPPY TOKE UP TUESDAY!
Heroes was huge tonight. I was starting to get bored with the show and began to consider not watching anymore. This was a big moment. The stage was set. I had a Jimmy Johns sandwich in front of me, and a juicy macintosh apple. Yum : ) If you're not eating apples by the way, you should be. The first half of the episode made me feel like this season has no direction or plot, but as the episode progressed more things started to come together. Even still, this season is disappointing in comparison to season 1 and to a lesser extent, season 2.
Ah yes, say goodbye to those massive youtube videos. I've found a much easier way to put music on here : ) Welcome in the new revolution!
This song is great to just kick back and relax to. Or, if you were like me last year, this song is great to drive home 40 minutes from school twice a week at 9:30 pm. I'm not complaining, it was actually pretty relaxing because my brain was so fried from lab. You may have recognized this song if you've seen Garden State, this is the song they play during the party scene. In the Waiting Line by Zero 7 off their album When It Falls.

Sorry for posting late, I had some internet issues.
I walked out of the breakroom at work today, and guess what I saw?

A lady being dragged off in handcuffs. LOL. She kept trying to switch tags so she could save money, but now she's switchin' tags to save money to post bail. It's a great day at Steinmart, b*tch.
24 starts soon! Jack Bauer + Redemption = $money$.
Many more changes are coming to TheMaassMedia! I'll be adding a top 10 of my favorite songs in each genre, from Hip Hop, Jazz, Folk, Blues, Funk, Hard Rock, Soft Rock, Indie Rock, etc. Also, there will be lists of great upcoming concerts for the following areas:
Chicago, IL
Champaign-Urbana, IL
Bloomington, IN
Madison, WI
Ann Arbor, MI
We haven't had enough Hip-Hop, so here's Beads and Braids by Nappy Roots off the album The Humdinger
Since it's a Double Dose Sunday, here's Brother Ali with Win Some Lose Some.

The new bond movie was a dissapointment.
I had high expectations after Casino Royale, as did a lot of people, and this film did not make the cut. There was way too much action and too little plot for the first 30 minutes. They were great scenes, but I didn't feel the same connection with Bond as I did in Casino Royale. Not enough dialogue. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't as bad as The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull; but you'll leave the theater feeling down.
On a brighter note, I found $20 in scratch and win lottery tickets today : D I was walking past one of those ticket vending machines, and I saw 6 differently priced tickets just lying at the bottom of the machine, unscratched. I didn't win any money, but it was still exciting finding all those cards for free.
I got over 100 hits last night! I'm starting to design the new website with Nick right now, hopefully it should be up in a month or so. I want a song to reflect how upbeat I am about TheMaassMedia, so here's Tremble For My Beloved by Collective Soul, off their album Dosage.

IMPORTANT:
All posts will be posted somewhere between 11:30 and 2:30 a.m. each day for the upcoming day, starting today.
Unfortunately, this means that there is no post for Nov. 13.
In non-MaassMedia related news, the Cubs acquired Kevin Gregg from the Florida Marlins today. They gave up Jose Ceda, a minor league relief pitcher. Seems that the Cubs are bidding farewell to Kerry Wood, who was the longest tenured Cub on the team. Hopefully the loss of Wood's salary will free up space to sign Dempster and stay in the Jake Peavy Sweepstakes. This should be an interesting offseason. For more info on the Kevin Gregg trade check out this link http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/the-kevin-gregg-trade/
I've been getting a couple of requests for some hard rock, so here's to you Daniel Stin, I hope you like it. The song is Roquefort by Karnivool off the album Themata.

RIP Mitch Mitchell
I'm sad to announce that Mitch Mitchell, the drummer for the Jimi Hendrix Experience was found dead in his hotel room this morning. You can read more about it here

My Dad is hilarious. Just gonna throw that out there.
Basically, he almost had a meltdown when I told him yesterday that I was involved in a fender bender. He doesn't handle bad news very well. I guess he felt bad for flipping out, so how did he make it up to me? He gave me a feel better card from all his students.
By the way, if you guys could pray for my mom, I'd appreciate it. She just started teaching another night class tonight and won't be home until late.
Here's Son's Gonna Rise by Citizen Cope. Not really sure what genre he would be classified as. Rhythmic soul is what I have on my computer. He'll be at the Canopy Club down in Urbana on Saturday, so if you're at U of I and don't have anything going on this weekend, try and get your hands on some tickets.

HAPPY TOKE UP TUESDAY!
This is just too much fun : )
Today was a bit of an adventure. It all started after a long shitty walk to my car in the rain, with no coat on because I haven't waterproofed it yet. I hop in my car and leave school. On my way home while I was stuck at a red light, I feel myself jerked forward in my seat. It was a guy behind me not watching the road. Someone's lawn caught his attention.
That's not very interesting. This is.
Seriously. He was a nice guy. He meant well. Accidents happen. I feel bad for him, the front of his car got all smashed up. And then DMX was like "Where yo hood at?"
Sagaba, by the Blue Scholars. They're a traditional one DJ one MC duo from Seattle, with heavy jazz and early 90's hip hop influences. You'll definitely be seeing more of them from me again.

Your daily dose of Jam - 11 - 9 - 2008
If Sunday is the day of rest, why not spend that down time listening to some fantastic music? Can't argue with that.
Eminence Front. The Who. Great song, and an even greater band. One thing I've always wondered is who played the keyboard/piano for them. They had Keith Moon (RIP) on the drums, Pete Townshend on guitar, John Entwistle (RIP) on the bass guitar (and the french horn on occassion), and Roger Daltrey on vocals. The use of the keyboard, however, was essential to many of their greatest hits (i.e. Won't Get Fooled Again, Baba O'riley, Eminence Front, etc.). I'm guessing that Pete Townshend and some of the others composed the keyboard parts and just had a different person perform during each of their concerts.

My Dad (above) actually met The Who once : O Funny story. It was the late 1970's, and BooBoo (my dad) was a Jesus freak at the time. He was evangelizing at an airport in London at the time, when he noticed a large ruckus. It was The Who, walking towards one of the terminals. When my dad offered a Bible to Pete, Pete sneered and replied "I got me own God" and walked off. Pfft. Douchebag.
This next song is an instrumental by John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess, titled Truth. It is off of their live album titled An Evening With John Petrucci & Jordan Rudess. In terms of pure musical ability, these two are among the best in the world at their perspective instruments, with John on the guitar and Jordan on the piano. They both belong to a progressive rock band called Dream Theater, which has released over 11 albums.
I saw John Petrucci perform at G3 a couple years back. It's incredible how clean his sound is when you listen to how fast he strums.
Tanya made a good point when she reccomended uploading 2 songs every Monday, since Mondays usually suck, with the exception of MNF and heroes. Maybe I will, maybe I won't. I'll see what shape I'm in after working 2 jobs tomorrow : ( At least you'll have these 2 songs to hold you off in the meantime.
Enjoy!

Enjoy!
Your daily dose of Jam - 11-8-2008
It may take a little while, but Maass Media is going to take massive strides in the right direction. I have officially uploaded my first YouTube video. Only 5,000 to go : )
It's called Seven Days In Sunny June by Jamiroquai. I admit I'm inclined to like this song since it's upbeat and has the added bonus of making a reference to my birthday, June 7. Big Ups to him for that. If you've never heard him before, you'd probably recognize his voice from the song Napoleon dances to in the end of Napoleon Dynamite, Canned Heat.
I'm thinking of making every Tuesday "Tokin' Tuesday" by adding an especially chill song ; ) And starting tomorrow, I'm uploading 2 songs every Sunday. What a great way to start the week.
Enjoy : )

Your daily dose of Jam - 11-7-2008
I've been in a Hip Hop mood today, so the song of the day is none other than Ghetto Pop Life by DangerMouse & Jemini.
It was featured in Entourage, so you know it's good. Catchy too.

My First Post
This is my first time joining the blogging world, hopefully I'll make it out alive...
Anyways, I'm Aaron Maass, and I have a fantastic taste of music. There's nothing I love more than introducing people to new music, so I figured a blog would be the easiest way to do so. Basically, each time I make a new post, I will attach a track list of a new mix CD filled with songs that come from many various genres, from Jazz to Hip Hop to Classic Rock and everything in between.
Here's a CD I recently made for my car
Tales of Kidd Drunkadelic - People Under the Stairs (Light Hip-Hop)
Pure Narcotic - Porcupine Tree (alternative)
Win Some Lose Some - Brother Ali (Hip Hop)
Lucky Street - Cartel (Emo Pop)
Izabella - Jimi Hendrix Experience
Used to Get High- John Butler Trio (jam)
Stealing Happy Hours - 311 (chill/reggae)
Let's Start a Riot - Three Days Grace (Hard Rock)
Stay In the Shade - Jose Gonzalez (acoustic)
Space Between Us - Sister Hazel (jam )
My Life Be Like - Gritz (Hip Hop)
Map of the Problematique - Muse
One Rabbit Race - Brother's Past (electronic/jam)
Good Year for the Robots - Coparck (Indie)
Paris, Tokyo - Lupe Fiasco (Hip HOp)
Take No Prisoners - The Mahones (Irish Rock)
Angel - Dave Matthews Band
Say Shhh - Atmosphere (Hip Hop)
I'm Free - Soul Position (Hip Hop)
Razorblade - The Strokes (Alternative)
I'll be working on making my own podcasts soon, and maybe I'll attach some links to these songs.

Enjoy!
