Welcome to Maass Media!

My goal for this blog is to share the music I listen to with as many people as possible.  If this is your first time here, all you need to know is that everyday I post good songs from different genres of music.  There is a list of genres on the left - clicking on a genre will lead you to a list of songs (with links to hear them) that I have posted on my blog.

Any time you see a portion of text in brown that means it's a link.  If you want to leave a comment, click on the comment box at the bottom of the post you want to comment on.  Rock on!

Ryan Graham's Daily Dose of Jam

Everybody's favorite ego-maniacal rock guitarist, Joe Satriani, has sued Coldplay for copyright violations on their hit song, Viva La Vida. You can check the similarities here.

Regardless of the financial depression, GM is holding steady to the belief that Chevorlet will release the "Bolt" on time. The Bolt is GM's attempt to shake up the electric-powered car industry.

Burger King recently placed a new item on its menu. Cologne. Flame is described by BK as "the scent of seduction with a hint of flame-broiled meat."

Tinkering with the classics can be very dangerous in the music world. Though I must admit, I'm addicted to Jay-Z's mashup with The Verve, Brush Your Bittersweet Shoulders Off.

Enjoy!

I think its sort of ridiculous. its like when John Fogerty was sued for sounding too much like John Fogerty. I mean we could probably go through the decades and pick countless numbers of songs that follow the same chord progression as these two.

**lets all remember people that Vanilla Ice got off with way more when he blatantly sampled Queen and David Bowie by changing one note**

Don't get me wrong i respect Satriani as a musician, but it sounds to me like someones obnoxious solos got old or too long for the patrons of his music, and now he is trying to rake in cash from other prospects.

Seriously, how long can a guitar solo last?

As for Coldplay, they have some good music, but they might fall in the john fogerty category soon. With every song having that same piano driven beat, the record company might sue for them for sounding too much like Coldplay.

There are only so many chords in the world....and only so many ways to arrange them....

so in my opinion Coldplay is in the clear with Satriani, but not themselves. and Joe needs a new gimmick.

**Note: my dislike for satriani comes from a hatred for flashy guitar playing with no substance or feeling. I have been playing guitar for 8 years now. No where near as long as satriani and thats why i respect him. But, i think this style went out in the 80's. Its great if you can play a thousand notes a second...It still doesn't sound good.**

Sean, after seeing Joe Satriani in person at G3 in Chicago a couple of years back, I couldn't agree more with your distaste in him as a person. There were 3 guitarists there that day, Paul Gilbert, John Petrucci, and Joe Satriani. Joe was far and away the least interesting of the three to listen to, and by far the most arrogant. He kinda ruined my night. When the three of them were up on stage together, he spent most of the time trying to play over Paul and John. What a prick :\

As for Coldplay, I don't believe they ever heard that song by Satriani. At one point in time I had Joe's entire discography - there must have been over 300 songs! There's no way Coldplay just happened to stumble upon that song and consciously say "Hey, that's a good riff. Let's take it" If anything, it may have stuck in Jon Buckland's (lead guitarist) subconscious, and he could have played it a couple of days later.

Grow some balls, Satriani.
More importantly, grow some hair.
