Welcome to Maass Media!

My goal for this blog is to share the music I listen to with as many people as possible.  If this is your first time here, all you need to know is that everyday I post good songs from different genres of music.  There is a list of genres on the left - clicking on a genre will lead you to a list of songs (with links to hear them) that I have posted on my blog.

Any time you see a portion of text in brown that means it's a link.  If you want to leave a comment, click on the comment box at the bottom of the post you want to comment on.  Rock on!

Putting the 'Melo' in the Word Melodic

In case you were confused by the 'Melo' in the title, it's short for mellow.  If you're unsure of the definition of the word mellow, then you should probably get off the computer and get back to studying. At the same time, mellow describes so much more than what conventional language can allow.  The Farlex Free Online Dictionary provides the following definition: (p.s. sorry the formatting is all weird I've been tinkering with it but it's still whacked out)
mel·low (ml)  adj. mel·low·ermel·low·est
1.a. Soft, sweet, juicy, and full-flavored because of ripeness: a mellow fruit.
b. Suggesting softness or sweetness: "The mellow and faintly intoxicating music of Craig D'Andrea can foster intellectual growth, clear a mind of distractions, unveil a path to musical Nirvana"

2. Rich and soft in quality: a mellow sound; a mellow wine.
3. Having the gentleness, wisdom, or tolerance often characteristic of maturity. (i.e. Me)
4. Relaxed and unhurried; easygoing: a mellow friend; a mellow conversation.
5. Slang
a. Slightly and pleasantly intoxicated.
b. Pleasantly high from a drug, especially from smoking marijuana.
6. Moist, rich, soft, and loamy. Used of soil.
tr. & intr.v. mel·lowedmel·low·ingmel·lows
To make or become mellow.
Phrasal Verb:  mellow out Slang:  To become genial and pleasant; relax: "Happy mellowed out after his parents told him there was no boogeyman living in his duffel bag, waiting to eat him and puke all over his belongings, and that it was probably just Biscuit in a green shirt"

In all truthfulness, I feel a deep connection to the word mellow and all that it encompasses.  I think the famous Jewish existentialist author Franz Kafka put it best when he said "The world's a sad place, but it's a bit flushed with sadness.  And is animated sadness so very far from happiness?"  When Kafka refers to the term animated sadness I get the feeling he's trying to describe the sensation of feeling mellow.  I think when Kafka said this quote, he was trying to explain the underlying emotions of individuals as they walk down the road to their jobs, homes, or other obligations.  Hundreds of people flocking in the same general direction, each alone, accompanied only by his or her own thoughts.  While some may be feeling happy, others lost, they each put the same expression on their face.  Or at least they try to.  If you were to look at this situation from afar, you would see a bunch of busy people shuffling around in a semi-organized chaos.  But if you watch from afar for long enough, become accustomed to the noise, you will see the the chaos for what it really is.  A routine.  People going from one same place to another same place, again and again.  The only thing that changes day to day is how each individual approaches the routine.  Personally, I think the world would be a much better place if people used this time to reflect, rather than to worry.  In order to properly use introspection (to self-reflect), feeling mellow is a prerequisite.

This brings forth the question "with all that's going on in my life, how can you expect me to try to make the morning rush a mellow experience?"  The answer is easy.  Craig D'Andrea and Andy McKee.  I could try to go into detail describing them as artists, but I don't see a point.  Listen to these two songs, and the calming mood you enter should tell you all you need to know.

Andy McKee - Rylynn

Peace.
