Welcome to Maass Media!

My goal for this blog is to share the music I listen to with as many people as possible.  If this is your first time here, all you need to know is that everyday I post good songs from different genres of music.  There is a list of genres on the left - clicking on a genre will lead you to a list of songs (with links to hear them) that I have posted on my blog.

Any time you see a portion of text in brown that means it's a link.  If you want to leave a comment, click on the comment box at the bottom of the post you want to comment on.  Rock on!

It's Good to be Back

I'M BACK!
And just in time for the new year :)

The cable lines were down by my house, so I was left to fend for myself with no TV or internet for 3 days. Luckily these awesome penguins fixed everything (left).

Here's a quick recap of what happened in my life the past couple of days.
  • I got a bunch of gift cards from some of the parents of the kids I work with at the JCYS. I wish they gave me cash; you can't buy weed with $40 to Target...
  • I met/fed a Vegan.
  • I invited people over from work to hang out. I figured half of them wouldn't show up because they had other plans, but to my surprise I found 11 people at my front door. My first thought was what the f*ck am I gonna do with all these boots?
  • I bought my mom a gift at Steinmart (I work there) because I felt it was a nice thing to do. After we close, all the employee purchases were placed on the front register. Whether it was an accident or on purpose I'll never know, but someone took my gift.
Speaking of gifts, I found the perfect gift for myself online a couple days ago. If you're like me (God bless your soul if you are) and you are a sound quality nut then check out this portable speaker. It has great bass response, which is rare for portable speakers. Plus it's only $39.99

I have many goals in life. Such as...
  • Learning Italian
  • Recording multiple albums, many of which will go platinum
  • Visiting all 50 states
  • Keeping all of my close friends...for blackmailing purposes
With all this being said, doing this is not one of my goals. I apologize for the terrible pun and the long drawn out intro for a YouTube video of The Top 10 Greatest Own Goals in Professional Sports History.

Here's Halo by Porcupine Tree. Great alternative/progressive band from across the pond.

!!!HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

RIP Beautiful Internet

Hey this is Natalie. Happy's internet has been down the last couple of days, hence the lack of posts. It should hopefully be up again by tomorrow but he wanted everyone to know now so you're not all freaking out thinking he died in a ditch somewhere. He is alive and okay! No worries. Anyway, since I am not yet familiar with how this whole posting music on here thing goes you may have to wallow in silence for just one more day.

Cya :)

Singin' Those Winter in Chicago You Never Know What Weather You're Going to get Blues

Winter in Chicago SUCKS. Here's a quick recap of the weather last week in case you were living in a cave. You see, the temperature in a cave isn't affected by the weather outside. Hence if you were living in a cave...well you get the picture.

Sunday - Thursday = Cold as shit. Seriously. It was like 4 degrees out. Snow was all over the place.

Friday = Fog

Saturday = 56 degrees and rain??? All the snow melts at once, leaving the water with nowhere to go but my basement floor. Ugh.

Perhaps some good music will rid me of my Winter in Chicago Blues. Here's Cold Hard Bitch by Jet.

Enjoy!

The E-Kaps Recap

So while Aaron is off doing his thing in the other room, I'm sneaking on here and writing my own post.

So what's the deal with airline food?

Ok for those who know me, you know that my humor isn't that dry. Or cliche. My name is Ethan, by the way, for those who don't know my nickname from SIT summer. And for those who don't know what SIT summer is, there's something wrong with you and you didn't even know about it. I'm sorry. I'll pray for you when I get the time.

So I've been instructed to get some things out of the way. First off...

So I go to Indiana University and we have a union as most major universities do. And every week they have a movie showing. Sometimes it's movies that haven't come out yet, sometimes it's movies that have been out for years, you get the idea. One week "There Will Be Blood" is playing there. I consider myself somewhat of a movie fan and I'm like "ok, this has been nominated for some stuff, and one of my good friends is at Colombia to be a director and he loves this, so I'll check it out". So me and two buddies go and see this movie and let me tell you I wish I had those 158 minutes back. And yes I did just IMDB that shit. Anyways, so the one good part of that movie is not supposed to be the one good part, but I laughed my ass off. Here's the original scene:

Ok, so it's a little out of context, but you (should) get the idea. If not, here's a synopsis. Basically the guy throwing bowling balls is an independent and extremely wealthy entrepreneur in the late 1800's/early 1900's who is after money and he gets his money through finding oil. He finds a huge amount of it under a small town who is very much against changing their old school (religious) ways. He finally gets fed up with all of them and goes off on their leader, the reverend who is also a 15 year old kid? Don't see this movie. But here's the link I really wanted to show you:

For those who know me you know I'm a music purist and I have been known to be somewhat pretentious. And I'm very humble. Anyways, I'm not one to like covers by any means. I mean I can count them on one hand. Also I can count the number of rappers I enjoy on the same hand. But I found this and fell in love. If you like Aaron's music, you'll like this. Also, editor's note, this is dedicated to Matt Steinberg and Matt Kaplan, two of the coolest kids I know. And you'll notice Aaron is left off here cause he left me off his December Daily Dose stuff. Jerk...not really. I love you too bud. But show me some love.

I'm a graphic design major, so by design the movie "Sin City" is like my bible. So I'm stoked for "The Spirit" despite the terrible reviews. I hope it's not as bad as I expect (I haven't seen it yet). As I sit here and discuss with my good friend Matt Kaplan what made movies like "Sin City" and "300" so enticing, I worry more and more about what is making "The Spirit" look...dull and corporate. What made "Sin City" really cool is that it used actors who aren't mainstream (Samuel Jackson), typecast (Eva Mendes), or sex figures (Scarlett Johansen). The cinematography is incredible in the original and I assume it's the model behind the second one. But just because you have great artistry doesn't mean you have a great movie (see "Memoirs of a Geisha"), which is what I'm afraid is going to happen with "The Spirit". If anyone ends up seeing it, let me know how it turns out.

Hope you all enjoyed this. Aaron just came in and said he wants me to make this a weekly thing. So maybe I'll be back. If not, hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday season and best of luck for a good year next year.

Hope You Had A Merry Christmas :D

My Christmas was so peaceful. I rolled out of bed around noon - just lounging around the house with my parents.

I'm in the middle of watching V for Vendetta. I can't believe I didn't see it sooner! It's unbelieveable!

I haven't mentioned this yet, and I feel that now is a good time. On Jan 4, I'll be going to Israel on Birthright for ten days. This means I won't be home to make any posts. If you're interested in writing a post or two for TheMaassMedia then let me know. Just comment below or send me an email at maassmedia@yahoo.com

Jesus's Daily Dose of Jam

Merry Christmas! Jesus loves you!

Are you curious where Santa is right now? You can track his progress around the world here.

I understand that this is in no way related to Christmas, but it's incredibly important. The Andes Mountain range in South America is going to double in size over the next 4 million years :0

Again, this video is in no way related to Christmas either. It's funny as shit though.

I was going to put up a video of me playing Christmas Time is Here, but I can't find my camera :\

I just keep finding crazy news all over the place. Have you ever been turned on by a carrot? I sure hope not, but in the next ten years, it may not be so improbable. Scientists are developing a "chip" that can perform the same duties as pills such as Viagra. It works by stimulating the same area of the brain that is aroused by both sex and eating delicious food.

Japan...You so Silly

I'm an American. These are the television shows I watch:
House
24
Monk
The Office
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Heroes
South Park

I was thinking to myself "Hmmm...I wonder what kind of programming Japanese people watch."

Then I found this.

This video is out of control. It gets funnier and funnier as it goes on - just give it a chance :)

Anna Graham's Daily Dose of Jam

Just in case you need another reason to despise the New York Yankees as much as I do, they now offically have the 4 biggest contracts on their payroll. You can read more about it here.

As Christmas is rapidly approaching, and Hanukkah is already underway, you may find yourself in need of some good holiday drinks. My friend from work recommended this site, and he's practically an alcoholic, so you know he's credible.

Anna - you're practically the best person ever. I love the Dear Sister parody you made for Matt and I last year. (I can't embed the video on TheMaassMedia, but you can check it out on her facebook here). One time Anna walked into my house, only to be confronted by my dad. My dad, being the old hippie that he is, shared a revalation with her. "Anna," he pauses, "did you know that Anna spelled backwards is Ohio?"

Anna got me into the Hush Sound. It didn't take much, I'm biased towards songs with piano in them. I love piano. When I'm done with school, I'm gonna have 2 years of vocal lessons and a jazz degree under my belt. Plus I'll have two years of Italian. Women will fight for me. Back to Anna. Here's a song I'm sure she'll like, Wine Red by The Hush Sound.

I'm really down about the fall series of a lot of TV shows ending. Nothing on TV to watch besides old reruns of Monk. No House. No Heroes. No Office. No It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The only thing that I would watch isn't even on TV. I'm talking of course about the National Dreidel Championships.

Enjoy!

Mason "Moose" Moore's Daily Dose of Jam

I recently made the switch from PC to Mac a couple of weeks ago. Apple is the way to go. They even hold a commanding lead in the advertising-fruit category. Check out what one happy Mac user in Japan made for Steve Jobs.

The next UFC event is coming up this Saturday. It's gonna be huge. Two ChampionChimp events. ChampionChimp? What is that? Ask this guy.

Even though I'm a casual UFC follower, I'm excited for this event. Frank Mir vs. Antonio "Minotoro" Nogueira for the Interim Heavyweight title. The winner of that matchup will get the honor of facing Brock Lesnar. Brock Lesnar is not someone who should be taken lightly. Skip to 0:50 in this video to see what I mean.

For all you fantasy football fans, this week is probably the championchimp championship for you. Cedric Benson ran for 171 yards? Damn. He can be a pretty solid back when he's not juking cops left and right on his yacht. I can't believe D'angelo Williams sat on my bench this week...4 rushing touchdowns! Unbelieveable. Actually it wasn't that bad, I didn't even make the playoffs. Hell, I'm not even in a fantasy league. BWHAHAA

Holy shit. The craziest thing just happened. I was trying to find an Al Green song for Moose, when I stumbled upon the song Love and Happiness. At the 0:45 mark, he sings "it's three o'clock in the morning". That's what time it was. 3 a.m. sharp. On top of that, I had a witness - Eric Myers. That's right, he has nothing better to do than to watch me write a post on TheMaassMedia at 3 a.m. Kidding bro.

Enjoy!

Every Jew's Daily Dose of Jam

HAPPY HANUKKAH

As a Jew, I believe in saving money. As a nice Jew, I believe in saving you money. Starting today, I am going to be adding movie reviews to TheMaassMedia. Here's my first movie review, discussing The Day the Earth Stood Still.

The plot was garbage. It starts with some alien sort of space-sphere coming to Earth. When you think aliens coming to Earth, right away you know this movie reeks of Keanu Reeves. Classic K.R. quotes right here.

"
I'm Mickey Mouse. They don't know who's inside the suit"

"
People were saying that David Geffen and I had gotten married and it just blew me away. Not that they thought I was gay, but that they thought I could land a guy that hot."

What really made this movie terrible was the little brat kid from Heroes, Jaden Smith. He ruined the movie for me my life. In all reality, the main reason I didn't like this movie was because it was the type of movie where nobody smiled. The plot dragged along, and there wasn't nearly as much violence or action as I thought there would be. The special effects were kind of cool, and the anti-violence robot was pretty sick.

Isn't this a pretty picture of China?

Long story short, this movie had Keanu Reeves, robots, a questionable plot, and minimal action. No naked chicks. It's $8.00. You make the call. I give it a 7.0/10

Paying for music? Who does that? According to some recent numbers, legal downloading outgrew illegal downloading this last quarter.

Stevenson High Scholl Social Studies Department's Daily Dose of Jam

If you went to Stevenson, you have to admit, there's no way you didn't love the Social Studies department. Conneen. Mazzuca. Salituro. Haan. The list goes on. The Triple Entente of Stevenson High School. But Haan doesn't count; he's an enigma.

Mr. Salituro was great. At the beginning of my freshman year, he spent an entire class period teaching us aikido, a Japanese martial art. Another time, one of his henchmen, Mazzuca, came in to class, looking for someone to play football because Bolger went home early. He picked Matt Friedman, one of my classmates, to go outside and play catch with him in the parking lot.

If you ever had Conneen or Larson for government, then surely you heard about CitizenU.org. Every single day. Before class. During class. Afer class. Sometimes in the hallways even. It's a pretty cool blog though. Before the AP exams in May of 2007, they were on National Radio taking questions from students studying for the tests. There were callers from California to West Virginia. When TheMaassMedia is nationally broadcast, I'll be happy.

I never had Haan. I really wish I did. Even if you ever had a class in the 7000's, you've probably seen him running around, picking on young couples in the hallway. If you did have him, I'll bet you heard him play this song. A lot. Highway to Hell by AC/DC. Did you know AC/DC is an Australian band?

In Non-Stevenson related news, Massachusetts has declared the sale of Tobacco products illegal on college campuses. But wait, there is hope. For all you Massachusetts tobacco junkies, check out my friend's up and coming online cigar store, wegotcigars.com. The site is still under construction, but it'll be ready for business soon.

I can't wait for the Panthers Giants showdown this Monday Night. Brandon Jacobs is still listed as questionable. Whoever wins this game will take home NFC homefield advantage through the postseason.

Ryan Graham's Daily Dose of Jam

Everybody's favorite ego-maniacal rock guitarist, Joe Satriani, has sued Coldplay for copyright violations on their hit song, Viva La Vida. You can check the similarities here.

Regardless of the financial depression, GM is holding steady to the belief that Chevorlet will release the "Bolt" on time. The Bolt is GM's attempt to shake up the electric-powered car industry.

Burger King recently placed a new item on its menu. Cologne. Flame is described by BK as "the scent of seduction with a hint of flame-broiled meat."

Tinkering with the classics can be very dangerous in the music world. Though I must admit, I'm addicted to Jay-Z's mashup with The Verve, Brush Your Bittersweet Shoulders Off.

Ryan Sherling's Daily Dose of Jam

From the way things are going right now, it looks like Ryan Sherling is going to be getting a $10 iTunes card in the mail sometime next week. He'll never make an easier $10 in his life. I better not have to pay extra to ship it all the way to Minnesota.

For the longest time, I felt Minnesota, along with the rest of the Midwest, was a huge waste of space. This song changed my mind. It's called Say Shh by Atmosphere. Atmosphere two days in a row? Hell yeah. This song helps ease the pain of living in the Great Plains.

So if the people laugh and giggle when you tell em where you live
Say shhh, say shhh
And if you know this is where you wanna raise your kids
Say shhh, say shhh
If you're from the Midwest and it doesn't matter where
Say shhh, say shhh
If you can drink tap water and breathe the air
Say shhh, say shhh

Check this out. I just programmed my blog to change the background color based on the time of day.

While you're at it, check out this fun game I stumbled upon. How long can you keep George Bush from getting pummeled by shoes? According to O'hare International Airport, we are at a security threat level Orange. Personally I like to think of it as level Ernie.

Finals

I have my last final tomorrow at 8 in the morning. I just finished taking a different final a couple of hours ago, so I haven't had time to make a post. I'll have one up by noon tomorrow.

Peace!

Matt Kaplan's Daily Dose of Jam

Minnesota has a dec Hip-Hop scene. Go figure. Need proof? Check out Atmosphere or Brother Ali to see what I mean. Here's Trying to Find a Balance by Atmosphere.

I think I found my new ride. 270 mph top speed. Perfect for cruising along in the 'burbs.

It's official, our economy is in the shitter. Not because the government lowered its' interest rate to .25%. Oh, wait, yes it is. Prices are going to inflate like a balloon.

Twilight's sequel, New Moon, appears to be undergoing a cast upheaval. You can see who's in and who's out here.

Hey guys, Matt Kaplan here. I will be writing more for this blog later. For now though, I leave you with something funny I came across while I was in Australia. It's a bit old, and a bit odd, but supposedly an Australian man attempted to pay a bill with a picture. See for yourself here.

Phil Levin's Daily Dose of Jam

Fate smiled upon me today. As many of you know, I'm working on getting a new website built - one that can stream music legally. In order to do that, I need a copyright lawyer to help me get through the necessary paperwork. In a normal, unlucky world, I would have to spend a couple hundred dollars to get an hour of professional advice. Not today.

As Adrian Monk would say, here's what happened. I was at Steinmart today, talking to my friend Matt. I asked him if he knew any copyright lawyers. Before he could say no, the customer standing nearby was like "My daughter is a copyright lawyer. She's in the ladies department if you want to talk to her". I was floored. Long story short, I'm not going to have to pay any money to get some free legal consult. Awesome.

Unfortunately, once I start building my new website, BMI is going to be breathing down my neck, so I'm going to have to find another way to get music on this blog. Or I'll have to keep it a secret. I'll cros that bridge when I get there.

I haven't heard from my good friend Phil Levin in a while. I introduced him to Nappy Roots, a great southern hip hop band. Here's one of their biggest hits, Aww Naw.

Francesca Lucas's Daily Dose of Jam

People have bad days. We can't enjoy May flowers without April showers. Whenever I have a bad day, I like to think that my friends will always be there for me to cheer me up. You see, my friend Frankie had a violin performance today, but she wasn't happy with how it turned out :\ I know she's a Muse fan, so hopefully Plug in Baby will be a good way to start the new day. Just as I started TheMaassMedia, Frankie started her own blog at http://maestromaserati.blogspot.com/

Today was a pretty hectic day for me and my family. I woke up this morning (by morning I mean 2:30 in the afternoon) to the sounds of my dad panicking. This is the same man who gets startled whenever norton anti-virus pops up in the bottom right corner of his PC. This is also the same man who puts empty milk cartons back in the fridge just because "he was in a rush". It was 11:30 at night. I roll out of my bed to see what's wrong, and I could understand why he was upset. His computer crashed and he thought he lost all his files.

I go downstairs to check on my computer, just to make sure mine was fine. I couldn't believe what I saw. It had crashed too. Holy shit. Both the computers in my house just crashed in the same day? Things were looking grim. My mom and I go to Staples to check out some computers, but that was foolish because Staples doesn't even sell computers. Well they had 2 laptops if that counts for something. We venture out in the rain and muck and find ourselves in Best Buy. Long story short I walked home with a new iMac desktop. All I have to say is wow, I love Macs more than PCs. This thing is sick. When we got home later that night, we actually ended up fixing both of our computers. Neither of them have much life in them left, which reminded me of a Bob Dylan song, Everything Is Broken.

Tip of the Day: Don't just think it, do it.

Jon Keenan's Daily Dose of Jam

I didn't get to see the moon tonight like I wanted to - it was cloudy :\ Oh well, just another 16 years until it's as close to the earth as it was earlier today. My illegitimate son in the Morocco will have his driver's license by then. Speaking of Morocco, The Office was ridiculous yesterday (The episode was called Moroccan Christmas btw)

On a side note, have you ever wondered what it would sound like if the Beatles did Stairway to Heaven? Well, now you can, with the popular Beatles cover band The Beatnix.

Get this. Jon Keenan is a beast. He broadcasts on one of the radio stations at Lincoln College, and he's agreed to promote TheMaassMedia. That's right, TheMaassMedia is on the air. Awesome. Good work like that deserves good music, so here's Ice Monster by Minus the Bear.

Enjoy!

Thoughts of the Day

I'm pissed that Chipotle raised their prices of a Burrito. A steak burrito costs almost $7 now. Seriously Chipotle?

For those of you who are starting to consider an alternative, listen up. I went to Moe's today, and I wanted to try something a little different. I got a plain burrito with only steak and queso sauce. Plus I got chips and a drink; all for $4.83

*DISCLAIMER*
I am not suggesting this is better than a Chipotle Burrito, but it was still damn tasty. And filling.

In other news, the moon is going to be the brightest it has ever been in the last 15 years. Watch out for werewolves!

I'm trying to get more videos up of music made by my friends. An old camper of mine, Andy Devries, made a pretty sick drum track to the new Kanye album, 808s and Heartbreak. Check it out!

Random thought of the day: Before the baseball off-season started, Manny Ramirez was quoted saying "Gas is Up, and so am I". Now gas is at a ten year low, and Manny is threatening to retire :)

Thursday, December 11, 2008

Sean Cooley's Daily Dose of Jam

DA BEARS
I missed the first 20 seconds of the game. I come back and I was like "Hell yeah! It's about time Hester!" Then I found out Daniel Manning ran it back. Boy did I feel silly. Anyways, I lied. I didn't watch the game. Why? Because it was only available on HDTV. WTF IS THAT? I was happy to hear that we won it in overtime, but it sounded like a pretty messy game. 49.2 passer rating for Kyle Orton.

On a side note, I always wondered how qb ratings were calculated. Grab your Ti 83's, this looks like a doozy.

  • The component for completion percentage, C, is calculated as: {{COMP \over ATT} \times 100 - 30 \over 20}
  • The component for yards per attempt, Y, is calculated as: \left( { YDS \over ATT } - 3 \right) \times { 1 \over 4 }
  • The component for touchdowns per attempt, T, is calculated as: { TD \over ATT }\times 20
  • The component for interceptions per attempt, I, is calculated as: 2.375 - \left( { INT \over ATT } \times 25 \right)

The four components are then added, divided by 6, and multiplied by 100.

In other news, the Cubs gave up on Jake Peavy. That's really dissapointing. Peavy doesn't seem too happy about this either.

For all you Umphrey's McGee fans, I took the time to transpose The Pequod onto piano. I wrote a short intro to it as well. Even if you're not an Umphrey's fan, check it out. The timing was off sometimes, but hey, nobodys perfect.

Holiday hours at Steinmart. Not fun. It used to be fun, especially when Sean Cooley used to work there :\ It was at this time 3 years ago that he first started. Now he's off in New Jersey, chilling in New York during his free time while I'm busy folding towels and helping old women buy antique phones. Oh well. At least my boss is hot :D (totally kidding). Even though it's been a while, I still remember that Sean digs indie rock, so here's Fire Eye'd Boy by Broken Social Scene.

Enjoy!

Tanya Mykytsei's Daily Dose of Jam

Happy Birthday, Tanya!!!
Make a wish :)

Tanya just turned 19, and I can't think of any better way to wish her happy birthday than by giving her an awesome homemade cake! That's not really true, a lot of things would make for a better gift than an online cake. Things such as
  • a Mini Cooper
  • a diamond necklace
  • a pet dog
  • Season 4 of 24 on DVD
  • a Deep Dish pizza from Lou's
Sorry Tanya, maybe next year. You'll have to live with the photo of a cake for this birthday. That and Hysteria by Muse.

I wish I was an artist. I had a great idea last night. Now that C.C. Sabathia has signed with the Yankees for $160 mil over 7 years, I wanted to make a political cartoon showing C.C. spending his money. It would be C.C. Sabathia in a Yankee uniform, in a Bentley dealership. He says to a salesman "Yes I'd like two of each please...I'm building an ark"

Natalie Voloshin's Daily Dose of Jam

The world can be a very strange place. Take the last 100 years for example:
  • Illinois has seen 4 governors get indicted
  • Jazz is born
  • Some dude named Matt gets sponsored by Stride to dance everywhere in the world.
  • 2 different people both named Aaron Maass form a website/business called MaassMedia. You can see his site here.
  • Natalie Voloshin wins the contest I posted earlier last night. Her prize? She gets a post dedicated to her. Oddly enough, her name was already on my calendar for a post today :)
Here are the answers to last nights quiz, with some background behind each quote:

a. "I don't expect everybody to like me. If you try to please everybody, by changing your position and your personality, every time you do that you lose a little bit of yourself"
b. “As people do better, they start voting like Republicans - unless they have too much education and vote Democratic, which proves there can be too much of a good thing”
c. "What's Wal-Mart? Do they sell, like Wall stuff?"
d. "(I'm looking for) a substantial salary for himself at a either a non-profit foundation or an organization affiliated with labor unions"
e. "I can't really remember the names of the clubs that we went to"

a. Nancy Grace - This crazy b*tch led a mother to suicide.
b. Karl Rove - No background story behind this quote. Karl Rove is just a slimeball, that's all.
c. Paris Hilton - Does Wal -Mart sell wall stuff? Really Paris?
d. Rod Blagojevich - This quote was one of his demands from whoever he elects to take Barack Obama's senate seat.
e. Shaquille O'neal - He said he Didn't remember what clubs he went to. That was his answer when a news reporter asked him if he went to the Parthenon when in Greece.

In baseball news, it's looking like the Cubs are getting ready to acquire Jake Peavy. This is huge.

In Natalie Voloshin news, finals are starting for her soon. Yuck. As much as I hate finals, it's still a lot better than finals in high school. It doesn't make sense to give you a cumulative exam after being away from school for two weeks. She's such a sweet girl, I can't wait to go to UIC with her next fall!

Anyways, she requested some hard rock, so here's Blurry by Puddle of Mudd off their album Come Clean. (My internet gave me some problems, so the song cuts out early :\ )

Enjoy!

Buzzkill

Rod Blagojevich really killed my buzz today. But he inspired me to make a game. I like to call it "Guess the Douche" Below I have posted 5 quotes, and you have to match which classless, distasteful person said them.

a. "I don't expect everybody to like me. If you try to please everybody, by changing your position and your personality, every time you do that you lose a little bit of yourself"

Eric Preston's Daily Dose of Jam

HAPPY TOKIN' UP TUESDAY
Don't Let all the green fool you

WWHOOAAAA

It's been a loooonnngg weekend for me. Holy sh*t. I'm pooped.

Are you diggin' all this green like I am?

Eric Preston reminded me of how much great classic rock there is out there. Everyone's heard all the popular classic rock songs, but there are a bunch of late 60's and 70's music that can't be heard on 97.1 The Drive. My crazy hippie parents could tell you all about them :)

My mom lived in a commune for a short period of time in her life. Two things drove her out of there:
1. She was the only one with a job
2. The FBI was running an investigation on her floor.

This post goes to Eric Preston. You earned it buddy :) Here's a great classic rock guitarist, Robin Trower, performing Caledonia.

Adam London's Daily Dose of Jam

As winter wraps around Chicago, I find myself reminiscing about warmer days. It's easy to find yourself caught up in drama, school, work, or whatever is going on in your life. We all need to just take a step back and breathe every once in a while. That's why G-d gave us the gift of summer. Bob Greene once said:

Summer represented freedom and friendship and an escape from the grayness of the rest of the year. Summer was not just a season; summer was a reward, even when we hadn't done a thing to earn it. Summer was the time to breathe, to feel like someone else, to discover things about you that could never be discovered in November or February. Summer was the time when you were allowed to figure out who you were.

But here we are today. It's cold. It's snowy. It's dark. There are no jars filled with pebbles; only gutters packed with snow and slush. But fear not! TheMaassMedia is here to brighten your day :)

I wanted to pick a song that really showcases the magic of summer. That's why I picked Flying Horses by Dispatch. It's perfect. It's upbeat, and, more importantly, it tells a story. It's rather mysterious; it has many of the same folk-loreish qualities as Stairway to Heaven. Whenever I hear this song, all I can remember is Adam London on the Noar Deck making 100 or so campers listen quietly as he raved about how passionate the harmonica intro was. Or maybe he was talking about Elias. Either way, I already uploaded this song. Here's to you, Adam London, for being a fantastic counselor and friend. I would never have heard of State Radio if it weren't for you.

Unfortuneately, my flying Horses video was blocked from youtube due to copyright laws. Yuck. But no worries, life is good, because here's Elias by Dispatch.

Enjoy!

This Week In Review 11/30 - 12/07

I upload songs every day, which means it's very easy to miss a song if you don't check daily. Life happens. I understand. Maybe you were too busy saving a box of kittens from a burning building to check TheMaassMedia. Or perhaps you didn't look because you were smuggling diamonds over the border. Or maybe you were like me and you spent your night drunk off champagne and surrounded by beautiful women on a yacht you stole from your best friends dad.

Whatever the reason, here's a list of the songs you may have missed.

TheMaassMedia's Daily Dose of Jam

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BLOG!!!

You just turned 1 month old! But you still haven't made me any money :\ I may have to start whoring myself out for cash again.

ANyWhO, my friends are currently in a heated debate. What is worse for you, marijuana or cigarettes? My one friend thinks that mary-jane is better for your lungs but worse for your brain. My other friend thinks that cigs are worse for your lungs but better for your brain. My thoughts? They're both idiots.

Here's my favorite quote from work today:

Me: "What has ears but can't hear?"
Sarah: "uhh...old people?"
Me: "Hmm... I was thinking corn"

Since today is my blog's birthday, I really need to put up an awesome song. Here's Bittersweet by Relax featuring Jamie Cullum.

PEACE!!!

Internet is back :D

Due to all the snow, Comcast had some trouble with their cable lines. I'll make a new post when I get home from work at 10.

Internet problems

Sorry I won't be able to make a post tonight, I'm having internet troubles and I'm going to be unable to use a computer for a little while :\

If I were Jim Hendry for a day...

I played Dradel for the first time in probably eight years today. It was a blast. I love my job at the JCYS (Jewish Community Youth Services); I work with forty of the cutest kids in the world : D

In baseball news, former Cub Bob Howry signed with the San Francisco Giants. Javier Vazquez went to Atlanta where the players play, and the Sox got back Tyler Flowers (a blue chip Catching Prospect) and Brent Lillibridge (a shortstop prospect), along with a couple of lower level prospects. Now that the Braves have Vazquez and are the frontrunners for signing AJ Burnett, could the Cubs still be in position to get Jake Peavy? The Braves certainly aren't going to make a deal with the Padres, now that they traded their best shortstop prospect and would have no one to replace Yunel Escobar if he were traded. I don't want to see the Cubs get Peavy, I want to see them get a solid leadoff hitter who can hit from both sides of the plate *cough*Brian Roberts*cough* If we had Brian Roberts, we could remake our entire lineup. If I were Lou next season, and we had B-Robs, here's what I would do:

1 - Brian Roberts - 2b
2 - Derrek Lee - 1b
3 - Geovanny Soto - C
4 - Aramis Ramirez - 3b
5 - Alfonso Soriano - OF
6 - Mark DeRosa - OF
7 - Ryan Theriot - SS
8 - Reed Johnson/Koske Fukudome - OF
9 - Pitcher

Personally, I think Koske is gonna bounce back next season. He just need to fix some holes in his swing - make it shorter and more compact. If he can bounce back even to a .270 hitter and draw a couple of walks, he would add that LH hitter that we need. What we DONT NEED is some slouch of a free agent like Adam Dunn who can't play defense. People can hate Koske all they want, but you'd be a fool to tell me that he wasn't a good defensive RF. A large part of why we succeeded during the regular season was because of defense and pitching, and we should stick to those values.

Go Cubs Go!

Nick Moylan's Daily Dose of Jam

Savvy

I'm banned from using profanities to describe my friends after my post yesterday : \
*Sigh* Life goes on.

As if the the big, bold "savvy" didn't give it away, this post is dedicated to my good friend and business partner Nick Moylan. He was the one who inspired me to create a music blog in the first place. Plus, he saved a cardinal today that he found on the side of the road. What a beast.

Here's a great song he introduced me to, Show Me by Mint Royale featuring Pos of De La Soul.

Jenna Hacker's Daily Dose of Jam

So basically, I work with one of the sweetest girls in the world. I've worked with her for the past 3 years, and honestly, she's one of the only reasons I've stayed at that job for as long as I have. Her name is Jenna Hacker. Two words come to my mind when I think of her (video below).

Here's one of her favorite songs from work, Birds and Bees by Ben Lee featuring Mandy Moore.

More Umphrey's

Here's Passing from their concert at the Great American Music Hall on 05-08-2005. It's probably their highest quality concert that I have on my comp. You can download the whole concert for free at http://www.archive.org/details/um2005-05-06.flac16

By the way, Archive.org is the best place to download live shows.

Enjoy!

Youtube can't handle what Jake Cinninger is dishing out

I spent all that time evaluating that last Umphrey's song, and it's too long for Youtube.

I'll upload a shorter song later in the day...

Ryan Kaplan's Daily Dose of Jam

I can't believe I thought I had a music blog. I don't know what it was before, but now it's officially a music blog with my first Umphrey's post. Not only are they the greatest band ever, they're releasing their new album on January 20, 2009, thus making it the BEST DAY EVER.

+

Here's to you,
Ryan Kaplan, for forcing me to put up some Umphrey's McGee. Here's All in Time from their concert at the Great American Music Hall, 05-08-2005. This is hands down the best I've ever heard (sadly, I only caught the last 5 minutes of the 41min All in Time at Summerfest in '07). If you're new to Umphrey's, here's a quick breakdown of this song
0:00 - 1:08 main theme
1:08 - 2:30 1st verse/chorus
2:45 - 3:30 Ryan (bass) + Andy (percussion) jam
3:30 - 4:15 2nd verse/chorus
4:15 - 6:23 Jake (lead guitar) clean jam (listen to the riff at 5:25)
6:23 - 6:50 Jake + distortion
6:50 - 7:18 3rd verse
7:18 - 9:28 Jake jam (listen to it pick up at 8:35)
9:28 - 11:52 Brendan (lead guitar, vocals) + Jake jam
11:52 - 12:18 main theme
12:18 - 14:12 slow marching music

If you can't tell I
f**kin love this song.

Peace

Matt Ockrim's Daily Dose of Jam

Happy Tokin' Up Tuesday
Chugga Chugga Chugga Chugga CHOO CHOO

Looks like Drama up on Capitol Hill. After having a fierce rivalry in the democratic primaries, Hillary Clinton is now (officially) our new Secretary of State.

Didn't she want to obliterate Iran?

All I know is I could obliterate a Taco Town Taco right now.

Munchies. Yum. Speaking of the munchies, what better way to kick off Tokin' Up Tuesday then with Matt Ockrim? Just last week he tore through a loaded Steakhouse burger from BK in under 3 minutes. I hope he remembered to chew. People can be forgetful sometimes, especially if they've been Passing the Dutchie with Musical Youth.

*Cough*
